Message from the QGL Team
Well, its been a long time coming, but now its finally here - the QGL
2000 Finals.
Season 2 has spanned almost 18 months of league-based competition in six
different games, with hundreds of gamers attending to compete. It has been a
long season, and we hope you've all had as much fun playing in the league as we
have had running it.
The culmination of the league is of course the rounds of game play that
will be carried out today and tomorrow. Thanks to the sponsorship of Wireplay
and Concorde Computers, we've put together what is easily Queensland's biggest
LAN, and also stands up there as one of the biggest gaming events around
Australia. We've spent a lot of time and effort in planning these two days,
aiming to make them an event worthy of the effort that the gamers have put in
all season in getting us here.
So, what's next for the QGL?
Next year, we'll be taking a break from the league-based games that
we've been running for almost 3 years now as we decide which direction to take
in order to guarantee better events for everyone. Our next LAN, which will be
taking place in January, will be featuring a large CounterStrike competition,
so make sure you stay tuned to the website for more information. We've got some
other stuff up our sleeve as well which we're doing to make gaming around .au
bigger and better than ever before.
The QGL has evolved rapidly since its inception a few years ago, thanks
to the continued support of the gamers of Queensland. It wouldn't be what it is
today without every person that comes to the LANs, and we thank you all for
your continued support. Additionally, we'd like to thank our sponsors for the
finals, Wireplay and Concorde Computers, for their support today, and we look
forward to dealing with them again in the future. Also, a big thank you goes
out to our Internet services sponsor, WebCentral, for their continued support
in making the QGL the largest community-based gaming network in Australia.
Remember, we thrive on feedback from the gamers in order to bring you
the sort of events and facilities that you all want. So please, if you have any
comments or suggestions, email them through to us at qgl@qgl.org.
Best of luck to all the competitors for the Finals, and we look forward
to seeing you all in 2001.

Game: Half-Life: Counter-Strike 1.0 Genre: FPS (First Person Shooter) Developer: Counter-Strike.net Publisher: Counter-Strike.net Official Website: http://www.counter-strike.net |
|
Game Information: Counter-Strike is a modification (MOD)
to the excellent game, Half-Life. It modifies the multiplayer aspects of
Half-Life to bring to it a more team-oriented gameplay. Not terribly unlike
Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike provides the player with an experience that a
trained counter-terrorist unit or terrorist unit experiences.
The MOD is team-based featuring one team playing the role of the terrorist and
the other team playing the role of the counter-terrorist. Each side has access
to different guns and equipment, as well as different abilities. Maps have
different goals such as: hostage rescue, assassination, bomb defusion,
Terrorist escape, etc.
Weapons include the usual assortment of pistols, shotguns, assault rifles,
sniper rifles, grenades, demolition devices. Each side has access to a
different subset of weapons so for example only the counter-terrorist can use
the M4A1, and only the terrorists can use the AK-47.

TPM – TPM |
Current Ranking: #2 |
Members: Pixem, Snoopy, Lamo, Theoder, Drail, New, Korbs, Nath, Simul. Clan Age: 2
Years Old (all original members intact). Clan’s Favourite Map: de_jeepathon2k or siege beta 4/5 version. Who will win the CS comp: If not us, we hope Wired or CFU do :) Clan Info: Formed as an excuse to team
up on dm17, and out of three letters with no particular significance, TPM was
started sometime in 1999. With the recent gayification of the CS community,
and the lack of legitimate cdkeys, TPM is now swaying back to RA3, although
they still enjoy a little CS on the side. Most Memorable Clan Moment: In the middle of a cs war Theoder spilt coke on his keyboard which totally rooted it. After attempts at pulling it apart and drying it in the toilets worked for only a few keys, expect asd being all one key, time was being wasted. They then had to get Simul and Nath to drive to QCG and buy a new one while Theoder borrowed Simul's. |

[SA] – Soul Assassins |
Current Ranking: #8 |
Members: Skurj, Posty, Ross, Mick,
Nic, Yarris, Mantra, Jolli, Mass, Psycho, Zephron and Nats. Clan Age: SAS originally formed in
April 1997; they’re perhaps Brisbane's second oldest clan behind the
venerable TLG. In January 1999, they became SA. Clan’s Favourite Map: de_dust. Who will win the CS comp: SAS, for sure. They have
excellent skills, but more importantly great teamwork. Clan Info: SA have played through
Quake CTF, Quake2 CTF, and now Counter-Strike. A few of their members also
play Quake3 and Unreal Tournament. SA are relatively quiet right now; they
haven’t played an online match for over a year – just kick back at LANs every
month or so. Most Memorable Clan Moment: Playing against the '2nd'
SAS team was probably the most memorable; it gave the guys a real indication
of what competitive CS is all about. |

Game Information: Untold centuries ago the Vadrigar, the mysterious Arena Masters, constructed the Arena Eternal for their own infernal amusement. Virtually nothing is known of these beings except that they savor the carnage and clamor of battle. As such, they have stocked the arena with the greatest warriors of all time. And you have just joined their ranks.
As a gladiator in the Arena Eternal, you must not only survive, but also win each and every battle against ever more powerful opponents. Don't worry overly much about getting "fragged." The Vadrigar won't be cheated of their favourite sport by a little thing like death. Those who fall are instantly restored to life and immediately thrust back into the battle, perhaps a little wiser for their misfortunes.
When the dust, blood, and gibs settle, all warriors will have earned the right to battle again, providing further entertainment for the Vadrigar. But only the warrior who has fragged the most foes will be lauded as the winner. The victorious gladiator advances to a more challenging array of arenas, until, at last, he or she faces Xaero, Lord of the Final Arena.
The Quake 3 duels have been pretty intense all season, with many new players entering the fray as mainline gaming becomes more serious than ever before, with duels topping the charts with the biggest cash prizes of them all. The top 12 players are in reality, pretty closely matched - in a game where microseconds can make the difference (and a small amount of luck, anyone can win. Whilst many people have been betting on Limps and Boba, two of the all time best Quakers in Queensland, in the background, others have been practicing like crazy in anticipation of some big gaming events coming their way - and they have, in the form of the QGL Finals. Everyone, most of all the players themselves, are keen to see the outcome of the last season's worth of intense duelling action.

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons
in duel matches? SHAFT! (but I can’t do that high pitch shaft from the
ads for the movie shaft) 2. Why do you like these weapons? I dunno I just do. 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3Tourney2 4. Why do you like this / these maps? Cause it has a shaft and I can do that funky little jump 5. Are there any comments or
things you’d like to say to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? Bout

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons in duel matches? Yeah I'm loving the lightning gun :) 2. Why do you like these weapons? Feel very confident with it over the other weapons and it feels so sweet just to hear that infinite beep that it gives off when u r laying down the schmack with it.. Doesn't happen to often but feels good when it does. 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM6 (TMP Modified) / Q3Tourney2 4. Why do you like this / these maps? Love the lightning usage :) dm6 is an awesome map.. have always liked it.. feels like the q2dm1 of q3 :) T2 is just mad for rape against newbies. 5. Are there any comments or
things you’d like to say to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? Yeah
its not as fun as it used to be but I've had way less time to play around
with it lately.. Too many changes and not enuf good maps.. would have been
good otherwise.. especially if they implemented limpzmode hehe.. cant wait
for the finals.. should be good fun :) But its taking its time.. that's for
sure |

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons in duel matches? Rocket Launcher, Shaft, Rail. 2. Why do you like these weapons? Cause they hurt. 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM13 (TMP Modified) / Q3DM6 (TMP Modified) / Q3Tourney2 4. Why do you like this / these maps? They seem to be more strategic rather than rail accuracy and shooting under floors. 5. Are there any comments or

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons
in duel matches? nawt really... rocket is j0r... boomy is j0r... umm so is rail,
plasm0r and shawft!... nades are gay,
well, not that gay... spamming is fun on dm13 and u can do some real clever shit wif em :P ... oh yeah machiney
rawkz too... can really cut someone
up with it when they're not expecting... its just whatever weapon will dish the most damage in a given situation
really!... heh :P~~ 2. Why do you like these weapons? cos they kill
stuff good man... rocket are my favourite i guess... the reason is cos imo they take the most
skill... especially stuff like air rockets and speccy rockets... firing off a
rocket at a spot ur certain ur opponent will be at 3/4's of a map away and
hearing a resounding *meep* 3-5 seconds after u fire is farking rad!... 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM13 (TMP) / Q3DM6 (TMP) / Q3Tourney2 / Q3Tourney4 4. Why do you like this / these maps? they're all fkn
rad!... dm13 is prolly my fav but i still like em all... dm13 cos its bigger
than most and theres lots of items to control and u can do a lot of funky and
clever shit with regard to item timing and stuff... the thing i love about
duels is the mental battle!... outwitting ur opponent, knowing exactly where
he or she (heh, i wish!) is going and what route they're taking... good duels
are not unlike a game of chess played at high peed and relying on killer
reflexes and hand-eye coordination too... a good player will know exactly
where their opponent is at all times, where they plan to go next, their
health, what weapons they have etc!... heh, i hope to maybe get to this stage
soon :P ... so yer, its all a big mind game!!! 5.
Are there any comments or things you’d like to say
to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? "Now that
you're all legends in the Q3 community ..." <-- rofl! ur kidding right ?... Well i just hope a whole lot
of ppl who've never seen q3 being played at this level will come down and
check it out!... i want pro-gaming to really take off here like it has in
America and Korea... ill be trying to drag my parents down at least so they
can know how it is exactly that i waste my life away :P~ Umm... other than
that... i hope all the finalists get the chance to put some big practice in
(including me, i need a 3d card first tho :\ cos playing only on limps'
machine will prolly be unacceptable, heh)... and yer, gl to everyone when it
gets to that stage!... |

Never thought about it, they do the most damage I guess. 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q#DM13 (TMP Modified) / Q#Tourney4 4. Why do you like this / these maps? I like t4 if I’m railing well on the day, and I just prefer dm13 to the other two. 5. Are there any comments or

like these weapons? HAHA "like" and "preference" are to different

dat bitch fly.. hehe Tinkage! Machine Gun, what a piss off to da enemy. 3. Out of the
maps in the finals, which are your favourites? [2] q3dm13 (TMP

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons in duel matches? No preferences. I try to use the most appropriate weapon for the situation I find myself in. One of the good things about Quake3 is that all the weapons are useful. Just watch a Fatality demo for evidence of this. 2. Why do you like these weapons? As above 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM13 (TMP Modified), Q3Tourney2 4. Why do you like this / these maps? I like the resource management aspects of dm13 and t2. Timing the armours offsets my lack of mad skills :) 5. Are there any comments or
things you’d like to say to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? I'm
looking forward to the finals. A lot of the players have improved
considerably since the qualifying rounds so I think Limps and Boba are going
to have some real competition. |

Minutes per map, the Grand final should be best of three played in numerical
order, i.e. q3tourney2, q3tourney4 then q3dm6(TMP). Also I believe that all
games played in the Q3 Duel Comp should have g_forcerespawn "5"
rather than the default "20". Makes games more exiting & less
lame near the last minutes of a duel. |

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons in duel matches? In t4 I like to use the plasmagun in case I'm being outrailed (which is most of the time) err in dm13 the lightning gun. 2. Why do you like these weapons? Even over a distance the lightning gun can help get rid of the tanked out opponents advantage. I like it over a big distance just in case I gotta run. A good equaliser! 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM13 (TMP Modified) / Q3Tourney4 4. Why do you like this / these maps? Dm13 -A bit more strategy then aim. T4- fast aggressive yet well designed so a defensive player like moi can regroup after a heavy attack from some railmeister. 5. Are there any comments or
things you’d like to say to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? The
finals venue better be air conditioned or my o/c celeron 333 is gunna blow.
Also, match fixing is rife!! I've been approached by 2 senior QGL

1. Do you have a preference for any particular weapons in duel matches? All of them, perferably if they're pointed in the direction of my opponent. However my personal preference is for weapon combo kills, you know, bounce with the rocket, gibb with the Rail... Stuff like that. It doesn't always happen, but when it does, I'm doing a lap of the building... 2. Why do you like these weapons? Next question... 3. Out of the maps in the finals, which are your favourites? Q3DM6 (TMP Modified) / Q3Tourney2 / Q3Tourney4 4. Why do you like this / these maps? They're all good, except for DM13, which isn't even a tourney map. I mean a map is a map. Who cares, my favourite map of all time was BlueHeaven by RivKid, we need a conversion done pronto. But yeah, as a personal preference, DM6 by a fair margin. Why? cause you're not constantly getting respawn raped, that's why... Well, sometimes, maybe... ain't that right Guv? 5. Are there any comments or
things you’d like to say to the big bad world about Q3 or the finals? Um,
yeah, I'd like to say a big thanks to Nats and the whole QGL possie for
putting up with my widging and bitching for two weeks before they agreed that
I'd look like a bigger turkey by actually being in this event. It should rock
though, It'll be interested in see how it all comes together, I hope they're
using 1.17... Oh, and check out http://ng-online.qgl.org for all the spam and
gaming goss... |

Right throughout the season there have been 8 clans
participating in this competition. It's been a tough season of playing Quake3
TeamDM, with some very fierce games occuring and being fought, however the end
if finally here. Brisbanes best 5 clans will be going head to head against each
other to see who really is the best TeamDM clan in Brisbane, and possibly
Queensland.
First up we have TLG, who got a couple of new recruits at the start of the year
to produce a well outfitted team. Their teamwork has greatly improved
throughout the season, making them a very strong competitor indeed.
Next up is j0r, who are ranked 4th due to missing the last round. j0r are one
of the stronger clans in the TeamDM finals, and they will be very tough to
beat.
Third is GZI, primarily a CTF team. Coming from a CTF background, GZI have
remarkable teamwork, and always keep at it until they acheive what they want
to.
CFu have improved tenfold throughout the season. Starting off as a 'second' TLG
team, they have now become their own entity, and are starting to make a name
for themselves. These guys could quite easily win the TeamDM competition.
Finally we have MAX, who started off the year as a CTF-based clan, but
concentrated more on TeamDM as the season progressed. MAX and j0r had some very
close battles against each other throughout the season, however MAX ended up on
top as they never missed any rounds. With a little more practice, MAX could
hold onto their #1 position. Only time will tell ...
Queensland has always been a very CTF-oriented state in
both Quake and Quake2, and it has carried on to Quake3 as well. There were 10
teams who entered the CTF competition at the start of the year, with a solid 8
teams still competing during the final round.
Any of the 5 finalists could win the CTF competition; it's just a question of
which one. There's GZI and Asha, both clans are heavily focussed on CTF and CTF
team tactics. Then there's MAX, j0r, and CFu who are primarily TeamDM clans and
duellers who have a chance of brute forcing their way into the grand final. It
could be anyone's game ...

What members make up your clan? Saint, Acid, Limps, Kvastr, Metal, Ineffable, Lycomedes, Damage Inc. How old is your clan? About 1 year old. A bit of info about your clan? MAX was formed after the first QGL season by Acid and Saint, and was
primarily a CTF clan, however they now also play (and dominate) TeamDM and
RA3. MAX is maw caw than slaw! Clan's favourite map? Q3WCTF2 for CTF and Q3DM6 for TeamDM. Who do you think will win the CTF/TeamDM comps? MAX to win CTF, j0r to win TeamDM. Most memorable moment for your clan during the season? Slapping down TLG in TeamDM in any games played against them, and
slapping down GZI in CTF in any games played against them. |

What members make up your clan? Avalon, Bad,
GreyMATr, Lash and Storm How old is your clan? About as old as
Jude’s mums' usual customers, and Jim's preferred age of boy - about 2.5
years A bit of info about your clan? The greatest
aspect of our clan is the awesome teamplay we show. Whenever one of us is in danger, the rest of us are around to
help cause trouble. Whether it be inciting fights, taking over lame online
comps or just general annoyance, GreyMATr leads the way and we follow. Our
favourite pastime includes teaching this other pretty boy, bandana and muscle
shirt wearing, non-shaving (and unnamed) clan how real men look at monitors,
move a mouse and press keys. We know who wears the pants in THAT relationship. Every now and
then we also play the odd game, and for that we bear with the usual gaggle of
13 and 14 year old groupies, and although they offer great opportunities, we
are unfortunately not in Tasmania.
Luckily we are all friends in real life (we have lives?) and over 18
years in age (apart from Bad), so you can expect us around for a while longer
at least. Surprisingly we
also like a good close game of q3ctf (and sometimes teamdm), and we also
enjoy surprising max and j0r by going surprisingly well. Clan's favourite map? The ones where
our opponents forfeit, or we play the aforementioned pretty boy, pansy tight
wearing poncing mirror staring clan, but mainly on q3wctf2 And as2m7, that
awesome q2ctf blue favouring cheap defensive map Who do you think will win the CTF/TeamDM comps? Depends if our
plan to take over the world and break everyone’s spirit (and hands) works or
not, otherwise the clan that wastes the most j0r hours playing to the max. Most memorable moment for your clan during the season? Actually winning
some games, and then flogging some member obsessed, hair grooming,
always-flexing clan. Seriously, our most memorable moment was beating some
doom loving, sheep obsessed, men swooning, perfume wearing, Robert Jordan
loving clan of cool people. Although
I hear they did make the 3 girls in attendance over the age of 18 swoon at
some stage, and therefore they earned the title of the worlds premiere

Australia, the oldest, and we still don't get no respect! A bit of info about your clan? We've never been
one for team strategy, mostly just wing it on individual prowess. Sometimes
that's enough, most times it's not. Clan's favourite map? Q3DM6. Who do you think will win the CTF/TeamDM comps? CFu in TeamDM,

What members make up your clan? plok's penis,
trog's penis, stagrrr's penis, rukh's penis, and jim. Obviously we're pretty
proud of our line up. Arguably the biggest members in the community.. and
Jim’s not too bad. How old is your clan? Our mighty
members have been putting TLG to shame since qtest. As you can appreciate,
four years is a long time for even our stalwart members to remain tall and
true, yet fear not, we show no sign of flagging. A bit of info about your clan? Ok, whilst most
other teams pride themselves on their skill, teamplay, strategies and
tactics, we opt for a more unorthodox focus. Eschewing all the facets of
gameplay that the seemingly more successful teams employ, we just like to
look good. Since the original Armageddon it hasn't been uncommon for not so
hushed whispers from the crowd babes to float over to us along the lines of
"omg, asha are hot" or this, "asha *swoon*" often this
crowd favourite, "I want asha's babies" etc. Clan's favourite map? Obviously the
leaked IHV. Our unique focus (see above) demands alternative training
techniques. A typical training session sees our formidable members each
fighting for the right to stand in front of the mirror the longest. Who do you think will win the CTF/TeamDM comps? Well as to which
team will walk away with the most frags or caps.. we don't really know. But
after seeing our members' ability to bear themselves proud and erect for over
4 years, and all the mirror work we've been putting in lately, I can tell you
what asha'man will be walking away with after the comp... Most memorable moment for your clan during the season? Well, I can't
recall which QGL it was, but we were having a pretty bad day. Trog had
forgotten his bandanna, Stagrrr had accidentally put on a t-shirt instead of
a muscle shirt, Rukh missed his monthly shave AGAIN, Jim was there, and
really only Plok was keeping Asha in contention. We'd shown signs of lifting
once or twice, but we just couldn't bring it up all the way. It was beginning
to chafe even our stalwart members. Things were grim, luckily sensing our
need, a couple of fine women who were in the area walked into the hall. Asha
lifted faster than other clans probably thought possible. With an
appreciative audience once more, our members finally screamed out of the up
down action that had gripped us for hours, to explode triumphantly into the
worlds premiere *swoon* clan. |

Game: Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings Genre: RTS (Real Time Strategy) Developer: Ensemble Studios Publisher: Microsoft Official Website: http://www.microsoft.com/games/age2/
|
|
Game Information: Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is the sequel to the award-winning, best-selling real-time strategy game Age of Empires. Age of Empires II spans a thousand years, from the fall of Rome through the Middle Ages in which players lead one of 13 civilizations into greatness. The game keeps the epic scope of Age of Empires' game play while evolving the combat and economic features.
At the start of this season, AOE2 was the latest RTS
craze. The first round saw a solid 8 teams enter the competition. The strongest
competitors by far were the two teams from Clan Vile, who's game of choice
online was AOE2. Denominator and Shambler were also a strong looking team.
The second round saw only 6 teams entering the competition; both Vile teams
came back for another beating up on the less skilled teams, as did Denominator
and Shambler. It was at this stage most people were favouring one of the Clan
Vile teams to take out the season due to such strong games and team work.
The third round never happened due to lack of interest. Vile were sick of
beating up on easy teams, and several players from other teams failed to show.
However, we plan to stick it out by running the finals and the two highest
ranked teams who show up on the day will battle it out in the finals.
We interviewed the leading team for the AOE2 comp, clan Vile to get to know
what it takes to be an super AOE clan, this is what they said…
Do
you have some favourite maps? There's
only a few maps that we really dislike playing on. Black Forest is a horrible
map, as it is easily walled and games often stretch out to over an hour of
gameplay. Continental, Coastal, Highlands and Rivers are all good maps, as
they've got a good balance of water and land. Clan Vile has been unstoppable in the QGL Season. Do you play online as well? How do you go against other AOE2 clans? We
play a fair bit on the Zone, and regularly play other Australian clans there.
We're not quite as serious as most of the other players though, and recently
we've taken a bit of a break - there's such a thing as too much Age playing. Do you guys sit down to together before matches and work out tactics, or just wing it? AOK
strategies work on specific starts - basically how you play the opening 10-20
minutes. Each player has an idea on how they're going to tackle a map, but as
the maps are randomly generated it's sometimes necessary to switch strategies
- farming early if there's no fish, etc. We'll let each other know what start
we're planning to use, and perhaps what units we're going to use. Are there any other comments you'd like to make about AOE2 or the QGL Finals? The expansion pack for AOE2 is great, the new civilisations are a lot of fun. We're looking forward to the QGL Finals, we might even put our Quake 3 skills on display. |
Game: NASCAR Racing 3 Genre: Racing Simulation Developer: Papyrus Design Publisher: Sierra Official Website: http://www.papy.com/new_n3/n3_index.html
|
|
Game Information: The award-winning team that brought you the long g NASCAR Racing series of simulations has done it again. NASCAR Racing 3 includes 45 of your favorite Winston Cup and Busch Grand National drivers competing on 28 tracks, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, all updated to reflect the 1999 season.
Nascar3, along with AoE2 were an experiment to expand the games played at QGL events. Driving Sims have been getting more and more popular in Brisbane, with quality driving wheels finally becoming affordable. Nascar3 was chosen as the racing sim for this season because of the good combination of ease of use and a competitive racing environment.
Season 2 got off to a great start with 13 people participating in the beginning rounds. Keyboarders like BoBa and Ducker joined in on the action and competed fairly well for the wheel impaired. Up the front was pretty tight with 6 drivers jousting for the lead. After the second round the numbers thinned out a bit, leaving a large gap between the top 4 and the rest. As mentioned at the start of the season, the points given by the Nascar3 ranking system stretch all the way down through the competitors. This gives ample room for competitors to gain points as long as they compete. Not racing means no points and a sizable dent in your championship aspirations. 3rd round saw the top 3 solidifying their positions, while a charging Metal moved into 4th outright with several wins in the closing stages.
With everyone that had competed being eligible for the final race, and double points on offer, it will hopefully be a tight race to finish the season.

What racing wheel do you use? What do you like about it
over other ones? Logitech Wingman (non FF). Cheap, USB connectivity, very precise. How long have
you been playing racing sims for? Do you compete elsewhere/online? 13 years? main game that got me into
Racing sims was indy500 on the Amiga. Only had the wheel in the last year. What's your
favourite track in Nascar 3? Why? Talla, VERY tight racing. The track is so simple anyone can get into
it, but then you find a whole dynamic of racing other drivers instead of
racing against the track. That's what door to door racing is all about. Are there any
other comments you'd like to make about the Nascar 3 comp or the QGL Finals? Uhh, QGL finalz rawk!! ... now gimme my

What racing wheel do you use? What do you like about it over other ones? I made my own steering wheel at home after doing a bit of research on the net. I chose to make my own because nothing on the market at the time was strong enough. I can give it a fair hiding without breaking anything. I can also custom design it to suit my driving style. How long have you been playing racing sims for? Do you compete elsewhere/online? I have been playing racing sims for about four years off and on, I got a bit more enthusiastic when Grand Prix Legends came out. I have played GPL online a couple of times, but me and Herpy usually just play together in our garages in the Herpy and Buhweet world championship. What's your favourite track in Nascar 3? Why? I like Talladega, the racing is always close and you have to be really spot on to go fast. The shorter ovals and the road circuits really show up the shortcomings of the games physics model. Are there any other comments you'd like to make about the Nascar 3 comp or the QGL Finals? The only problems with the Nascar 3 comp was the lack of good drivers at the start and the lack of any drivers at the end of the season. With only four of us racing regularly, it isn't quite as exciting. And sometimes there is a few too many AI cars which just get in the way. |

What racing wheel do you use? What do you like about it
over other ones? I use a homemade wheel and pedals. It's extremely
precise, and one of the reasons I’m fast in real racing sims like Grand Prix
Legends. I
also use a thrustmaster. It's good to take to lans for racing games which
don't require precise control over the car. How long have you been playing racing sims for? Do you

When you register at the QGL Finals you will be given this programme as well as a player pass that will have your IP address printed on it. It is in the form of “10.0.0.*”. This address needs to be entered into your network settings. This is pretty simple and the steps are shown below.
1. Right click on your network neighbourhood icon on the desktop and select properties. The dialog box on the right is shown. Select your network card in the list, where it is matched up with the TCP/IP protocol. Note that in this example, the TCP/IP protocol is bound to the NE2000 compatible network card. |
|
2. Click on properties and click on the IP Address tab if it isn’t already showing. Select “Specifiy and IP Address” and enter the IP address on your player pass in to the IP Address field. Enter the network mask as shown. |
|
3. Once you close these dialog boxes, you will usually be asked for you Windows CD. Insert the CD and say yes when it asks you to reboot. |
|
4. After the PC has booted up you should be all set to start gaming! If you have any problems, ask a passing Admin. They are recognisable by their special admin shirts, and they’ll help you out. |
